Free Speech

I am what you would call a free speech purist. I have been publishing newspapers for over 8 years (3 newspapers in Sacramento and 2 newspapers in San Diego). I am constantly shocked by the myriad of limitations there still are on freedom of speech in this country. The restrictions usually are from smaller municipalities, colleges in particular.

Petty college government officials set up laws that fly directly in the face of the 1st amendment. The first amendment is the first amendment for a reason and that reason is that it is the cornerstone of our civilization. I know exactly how politically correct bureaucrats attempt to circumvent basic American freedoms and I will stop them from undermining the brilliance of our Founding Fathers.

"Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter."
-Thomas Jefferson

Illegal Immigration

Most politicians talk a lot about immigration. However, I am the only one taking it to the grass-roots level, or more appropriately, the tumbleweed-roots level at the outskirts of Arizona where I will join The Minuteman Project. Our borders are in dire need of security. We cannot institute policies to manage immigration if we cannot ensure the law is respected.

Last year, I personally assisted the border guards in the protection of our country from illegal aliens and possible terrorist threats. After visiting the front line I went to Washington D.C. with radio show hosts John and Ken from KFI and Roger Hedgecock from KOGO to help convince my future colleagues in congress that they need to take immediate action to correct our border problem.

I have been on national news regarding an incident in Arizona where I assisted an illegal immigrant named Jose by providing him with food, drink, $20, and a T-shirt. Please visit the video section to see the video of the encounter for yourself and judge whether I illegally detained him, as the ACLU and others have wrongfully claimed. I did nothing other than assist the man and do my civic duty as a United States citizen by calling the border patrol. I was raised in a way that if I see someone in need it is my duty to help him, and that is what I did.

Unfortunately, the incumbent to the 53rd district has one of the worst voting records in the house when it comes to illegal immigration. Americans for Better Immigration, a non-profit, non-partisan organization, has rated her a F- because of her neglect of our borders and her constant need to give illegal aliens tax payer dollars even at the expense of our schools and Social Security system.

Homeland Security

I have also taken the 10 point "Candidate's Pledge on Homeland Security." written by Congressman Brian Bilbray.

1.  Ending the current "Catch and release" policy by making expedited removal of illegal aliens mandatory and to require the completion of the US-VISIT entry-exit system.

  1. Authorizing the deployment of the military on the border to assist in controlling illegal immigration.
  1. Construction of a border fence along the U.S.-Mexico border extending from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico, starting with the most heavily trafficked border crossings.
  1. Mandatory employer verification of worker eligibility to work in the United States.
  1. Stiff penalties for knowingly hiring illegal workers, not fines that are considered "a cost of doing business."
  1. Make clear that local and state authorities are authorized to apprehend illegal aliens in the conduct of their routine duties, a legal uncertainty that has prevented untold thousands of illegal alien captures.
  1. Prohibit illegal aliens from any access to Social Security benefits. Unbelievably, current U.S. law allows a loophole for illegal aliens to receive social security benefits. This practice must end.
  1. Removing employer tax deductions for wages and benefits paid to illegal aliens.
  1. Limiting birthright citizenship to the children of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents.
  1. Comprehensive border and immigration enforcement legislation to end countless other loopholes that benefit illegal aliens and those who profit from their crime of illegal presence in the United States, to give law enforcement the tools and permission to enforce the laws and to compensate states for the financial impact of illegal immigration.

Gun Rights

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees citizens the right to bear arms and I support this right for all law abiding citizens.

Tort Reform

The United States has more lawyers per capita than any other major industrialized nation.  Trial lawyers that file frivolous lawsuits on behalf of disingenuous clients increase liability costs for employers, disrupt productivity, and destroy jobs.  When state governments enact tort reform legislation, productivity and employment increase by 10 to 20 percent. National tort reform legislation will produce needed jobs in San Diego, and I fully support it.

Crime

Please vote yes on Jessica’s law this November!  Visit http://www.jessicaslaw2006.com/ to learn more about Jessica’s law.  This law has come up to a vote of the people because the liberal’s in the state legislature are not serious about punishing child sex offenders.

Support for Small Business

Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy.  Every large business was once a small business, and the majority of employees in this country work for small businesses. In Congress, I will work to be a strong voice of support for small businesses and their owners.  The government must work to promote these entrepreneurs by keeping the tax burdens light, and by decreasing stifling regulations. We should be encouraging practices that result in re-investing and new hiring.  Creating new, working taxpayers is a better way to maintain government revenues than increasing taxes on businesses.

Cutting Waste in Government and ‘Pork Barrel’ Politics

People in Washington are making decisions dictating how we live our lives.  Pork barrel legislation has short changed our communities and allowed special interests to preempt our voice.  Give decisions back to our states and our communities and stop the impact and influence of money in Washington!  Our children should not be responsible for our budget disasters.  We must balance our budget without raising taxes.   We can do this by reauthorizing the privately funded Grace Commission, established under the Reagan Administration, which utilized private sector experts in their respective fields, to research, examine, and analyze all areas and departments involved in U.S. government spending. The commission recommended actions that in 1985 would save the U.S. Government and taxpayers $455 billion over 3 years and $1 trillion over 10 years.

Veteran's Issues

Protecting our veterans and ensuring they receive the services and benefits they were promised should be a top priority of your United States Representative. If elected, my office will employ a full-time Veterans Affairs Liaison to work with veterans in the 53rd District to make sure they are able to receive their benefits and services from the federal government. We will also form a Veterans Advisory Committee to meet regularly to discuss issues of importance to local vets and to find creative solutions to their concerns.

Military service should be a badge of honor for those Americans who have defended our great nation and it will be my great privilege and honor to make sure each and every veteran in this country has the opportunity to wear that badge proudly.

"The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war

no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they perceive

the veterans of earlier wars were appreciated by their nation"
